Monthly Roundup January 31st 2006

January saw me pining for the outdoor life I had enjoyed for six months and trying to book all sorts of diving trips and training in an effort to cheer myself up. Having lived outside for six months whilst travelling round Australia it seemed strange that now I was worrying about the amount of lime scale around my kitchen taps whilst a month ago my main concerns were, how many days water did I have and where was I going to camp that night?

I also seemed to suffer from some mysterious malady for several weeks making me feel very ill. Despite blood tests etc the doctor was unable to pin it down to anything and said it could even be still be jetlag!! Eventually things seemed to improve although I had big problems with sleep. I couldn’t get used to sleeping inside and was getting terrible backache from sleeping on a mattress once again and not my old thermarest. I also had to sleep with the windows wide open.

In addition to booking several weekends diving for later on in the year I went and signed up for my divemaster training and a couple of other courses that I felt would be useful. Although I can’t really see myself as an instructor I do like helping new divers.

January also saw me winning the sea life section in the clubs photo competition with my picture of a leafy sea dragon and coming second with my picture of the crows nest on the The Swan in Western Australia.
