Hunting for Congers on The Epsilon-July 06

You’ll see some free-swimming congers on this one……….so I was told! Having only ever seen one conger before and that was only the head, I was looking forward to this!
This was another early evening dive down in Cornwall but this time on WestBay Lass going out from Falmouth.
The Epsilon was a Dutch steamship that was sunk by a mine. There is little of it left although the boilers are quite distinctive. It still makes a good dive, as there is plenty of life around making their homes on and around the pieces that are strewn across the seabed.

Well I didn’t see a single conger but apparently they were there in their usual lair and two of the divers took food to feed them (sausages held out on long sticks). They live in the boilers behind a grating and seeing someone’s photos and a bit of video afterwards I was disappointed that I hadn’t come across them……..but at least I’ll know where to look next time!
