Scapa again!

I have been incredibly lucky this year and had the opportunity to vist Scapa twice. The second time was to stay on the liveaboard MV Halton.

I was delighted to be able to do this as it gave me the opportunity to meet skipper Bob Anderson, ‘the man behind the blog’ which I have reading fairly regularly throughout the year and following the adventures of Halton as they travel the northern seas of the UK. His blog initially grabbed my attention as he described the work being carried out over the winter in preparing Halton for a new season. how to get 60ft of oak up a beach Enjoying his sense of humour I was hooked and became a regular reader of Halton Ocean
Meeting Bob was a bit like meeting someone famous who you already know a bit about and I was qute excited when I finally climbed down and onto the Halton. There was only a small group of us on board which not only meant that we had a lot of space but that there was plenty of time to talk to Bob and I was not disappointed. His sense of humour is very evident in the blog which has often had me laughing out loud as I read some of the entries and in reality he also enjoys winding people up and playing the odd practical joke. As the group were also of a similar ilk it proved to be a trip with much merriment and laughter.

The diving of course was wonderful and I shall be writing about it on Travel-Dive and posting the appropriate links at sometime in the future. Having a ‘second bite’ at Scapa also gave me the opportunity to visit one or two other places connected with the history of the place. Whilst I had already visited the museum a second visit to Hoy meant a stroll up to what used to be the command centre that looks out over the flow.

Scapa Flow is not a place you tire of easily. There is so much diving up there I am sure I shall do several more trips before it looses its appeal. However I also know that Bob does other trips diving in and around the Shetlands for example and it is going to be these that I have very high up on my ‘to do’ list in the future.
